PadMan will now release on February 9, 2018.
This Republic Day, the audience was all in for an epic clash between Bollywood films ‘ Padmaavat ‘ and ‘ PadMan ‘. However, Friday evening saw a sudden turn of events as the makers of the R Balki directorial, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte bowed out of the box-office battle and opted to release on February 9, 2018.
In the wake of this unexpected announcement, Akshay held a press conference at his residence, where he addressed the media along with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Talking about the sudden postponement of the film, a grateful Bhansali said, “I’ll be grateful to him (Akshay) for a lifetime for what he has done. I think the industry and the world can understand the place in which we live, is to be with each other, stand by and respect each other. And, I think the fraternity would be proud of what Akshay has done today. This kind of gesture would have been quite impossible in this industry.”
Bhansali was questioned about the ongoing controversies surrounding his film, but the filmmaker chose to avert them by excusing himself for the conference.
When National Award Winning actor, Akshay was quizzed about his film being postponed, he said, “Yes, we are going to do that as that’s what my studio and Kriraj’s decision was. I requested them too because there’s no point in clashing. I can completely understand that his need for this date is more than mine.”
In addition, Akshay was even asked why both films could not release at the same time, to which he said, “They have a reason to release this time as it is essential for them. The point is not about fighting and clashing. Both can release at the same time and business too can happen as there are nearly 4500-5000 theatres and we both can share it, but at the moment the stake of their movie is much higher than mine and Bhansali is a great person and a dear friend. So he asked and I went with it.”
Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’ will now hit theatres with Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Aiyaary’ on February 9.
Akshay has worked with a whole lot of filmmakers in his long career. However, ‘PadMan’ is his first team-up with filmmaker R Balki which now adds a new feather in his cap. Balki is known particularly for two films starring Amitabh Bachchan which was ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Paa’. This will be the director’s fifth venture in films. So it will certainly be exciting to see what this combination can bring to Bollywood.
